OTTAWA — Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Monday that Canada has refused to "pretend" it is being an honest broker on Israel — even though it meant this country lost votes in its recent bid for a seat on the United Nations Security Council.

Harper made the remarks in a speech on Parliament Hill at a gathering of international parliamentarians and experts attending a conference on combating anti-Semitism.

The prime minister delivered a strongly worded warning about the resurgence of anti-Semitism in Canada and abroad. He said the persecution of Jews is becoming a global phenomenon in which anti-Semitic ideologies target the Jewish people in their "homeland" of Israel and uses the "language of human rights to do so."

"When Israel, the only country in the world whose very existence is under attack, is consistently and conspicuously singled out for condemnation, I believe we are morally obligated to take a stand," said Harper.

"I know, by the way, because I have the bruises to show for it, that whether it is at the United Nations, or any other international forum, the easiest thing to do is simply to just get along and go along with this anti-Israeli rhetoric, to pretend it is just about being even-handed, and to excuse oneself with the label of 'honest broker.'"

"There are, after all, a lot more votes — a lot more — in being anti-Israeli than in taking a stand. But, as long as I am prime minister, whether it is at the UN or the Francophonie or anywhere else, Canada will take that stand, whatever the cost. Not just because it is the right thing to do, but because history shows us, and the ideology of the anti-Israeli mob tells us all too well, that those who threaten the existence of the Jewish people are a threat to all of us."

Canada lost its bid for the UN Security Council seat in mid-October. It withdrew from a run-off against Portugal after twice running second to the diminutive European state.

The result meant that Harper's government was the first to have failed to maintain Canada's record of winning a place on the 15-member body — the UN's most powerful — once per decade since the United Nations' inception in 1945.

While the vote in the 192-member UN General Assembly is secret, broad opposition from members of the Islamic block appeared to have scuttled Canada's chances of returning to the council for the 2011-2012 two-year term.

The Harper government's shift toward support for Israel compared to positions held by previous Liberal governments had not gone down well with members of the 57-member Organization of Islamic Conference, said officials based at the UN.

In his speech on Monday, Harper delivered a sombre address about the state of humanity.

"It is a fact of history, and it is a fact of our nature, that humans can choose to be inhuman. This is the paradox of freedom. That awesome power, that grave responsibility — to choose between good and evil."

Harper said the world must never forget that there are those who would "choose evil" and would launch another Holocaust, if left unchecked.

"In response to this resurgence of moral ambivalence on these issues, we must speak clearly," said the prime minister.

"Jews today in many parts of the world and many different settings are increasingly subjected to vandalism, threats, slurs, and just plain, old-fashioned lies."

Harper said it is particularly disturbing that anti-Semitism has gained a place at "our universities," where at times, it is not the "mob who are removed, but the Jewish students under attack."

"And, under the shadow of a hateful ideology with global ambitions, one which targets the Jewish homeland as a scapegoat, Jews are savagely attacked around the world — such as, most appallingly, in Mumbai in 2008." ....snip

Israel’s Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center sheds light on
the nature of Turkey’s IHH, the chief organizer of the flotilla to
Gaza :

1. The radical Islamic, anti-Western IHH - the chief supporter of the
flotilla to Gaza - poses as a humanitarian relief fund (Turkish
Humanitarian Relief Foundation), while supporting Hamas and several
Jihadist organizations in Bosnia, Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya,
Algeria, Chechnya, etc..

2. The IHH initiated a number of “humanitarian aid” convoys to anti-US
Islamic terrorists in Iraq’s Fallujah Triangle.

3. According to the Danish Institute for international Studies, IHH
is connected to Al Qaeda and global Islamic terrorism. The Istanbul
office of IHH was raided, and IHH activists were arrested, by the
Turkish security services. Explosives, IED (Improvised Explosive
Device) manuals, weapons and Afghanistan-oriented documents were
confiscated during the raid.

4. According to a French intelligence report, Bulent Yildirim, the
president of IHH, recruited “Jihad warriors” and transferred money,
firearms and explosives to Al Qaeda and other Islamic terrorists in
various countries. Yildirim made telephone calls to European “shelter
apartments,” which were used by Islamic terrorists, including Abu
el-Ma’ali, known as “Junior Ben-Laden.” IHH produced documents, which
facilitated air travel by Islamic terrorists, posing as relief
workers. IHH was connected to Ahmed Ressam, an Islamic terrorist, who
attempting to smuggle 1320 pounds of explosives and plant them at the
Los Angeles International Airport.

5. Bulent Yildirim embraced the world view of the Muslim Brotherhood
(the mentor of Hamas in Gaza) and has been a systematic supporter of
and collaborator with Hamas. He has transferred significant amount
of money to Hamas and its “charitable societies” and has promoted
during major Hamas events in Turkey armed struggle against the
Jewish State.

THE CONTEXT OF THE “GAZA FLOTILLA”:

1. Gaza is a bastion of Iran and Syria-supported Hamas terrorism,
launching thousands of missiles at Israel, kidnapping Israel’s Gilad
Shalit and smuggling into Gaza terrorists, more precise and longer
range missiles, explosives and other lethal elements. Efforts have
been made to minimize such smuggling via Sinai and from the
Mediterranean.

2. Israel’s aim of cooperation was demonstrated by Jerusalem’s offer
to allow the “Gaza Flotilla” to reach its destination (in spite of the
daily flow to Gaza via Israel - of food, oil, cement and multitude
of products) following a thorough examination of its content.

3. The “Gaza Flotilla” aim of confrontation was demonstrated by its
rejection of Jerusalem’s offer and by the handguns, knives,
screwdrivers, iron pipes and a gun employed by terrorists on board.
Confrontation has been the goal of the “Gaza Flotilla,” as evidenced
by the campaign of anti-Israel incitement carried out by its personnel
and sponsors.

4. The Israeli soldiers were prepared for a peaceful-takeover in face
of (erroneously-assumed) civil disobedience. Therefore, they were
equipped with paintball guns as the primary weapon and handguns as an
emergency weapon, to be used only if facing death. They resorted to
handguns in response to an attempted lynch by the scores of
terrorists, who assaulted the soldiers with iron pipes, knives,
screwdrivers and a gun. Handguns were snatched from soldiers, by the
lynching mob, and were directed at the soldiers. Five boats were taken
over peacefully and one (with 600 passengers) became an arena of
confrontation between Israeli soldiers and terrorists. Israeli
restraint minimized fatalities among terrorists.

5. The responsibility for the fatalities and casualties lies at the
doorstep of the IHH, other supporters of the “Gaza Flotilla,” the UN
and multitude of governments, which could but would not stop the
Flotilla.

6. Would NATO allow a “humanitarian aid” convoy, organized by the
radical Islamic anti-Western IHH, to travel unchecked to a Taliban
stronghold?! Would Germany, Italy or France allow such a convoy to
reach “Baader Meinhoff”, “Red Brigade” or “Action Direct” terrorist
strongholds?

7. The “Gaza Flotilla” highlights the role of the Jewish State as the
outpost of Western democracies in face of Islamic terrorist offensive.
De-legitimizing and weakening Israel the role model of counter
terrorism would be a tailwind for Islamic terrorists the role
model of international terrorism - facilitating their assault on the
Free World. It’s not a clash over Gaza; it’s a clash of civilizations!

Hero of Warsaw Ghetto uprising, Marek Edelman, dies at 86

A hero of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising, Marek Edelman, was the last surviving leader of the small Jewish militant groups who fought against the Nazis in 1943 during the final attempt to liquidate the ghetto. Edelman died Friday at his Warsaw home, age 86.

After the war Edelman served as the right-hand man of uprising leader Mordechai Anielewicz and was a long-time activist in the Bund, the General Jewish Labor Union. The organization was known in part for being anti-Zionist, believing that Jews must assert themselves as a part of the societies of their countries of origin.

The dispute led to tension with Edelman's former colleagues from the uprising who immigrated to Israel after surviving the war. In later years, Edelman reportedly warmed to Zionism and met with fellow ghetto fighters who had immigrated here.

Poland was home to the biggest Jewish population in Europe before 1939, but most of them perished in the Holocaust.

The Warsaw Ghetto was established in 1940 and nearly half a million people were forced to live there at some point.

Despite the anti-Semitic policies of Poland's communist authorities after World War II, Edelman never left his homeland. He worked as a cardiologist, married and had two children.

Edelman's memoirs were translated into six languages, including Hebrew.

Barack Obama has instructed the State Department to create a new appointment, US Special Representative for

This was at the urging of the head of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, who, while at the White House, "urged the US to quickly appoint an envoy to the Islamic bloc" - which prompted BHO to create the "new office that is responsible for outreach with Muslims around the world."
His sent his no. 2 woman at the White House, Valerie Jarrett, to speak at the racist hate-fest staged over the Fourth of July weekend by the Islamic Society of North America, an unindicted co-conspirator in a case involving the funding of the Hamas terror group. At the ISNA conference, pure hate speech and Islamic anti-Semitism were promoted, and the Obama administration was there.
Imam Warith Deen Umar spoke about his books, Jews for Salaam: The Straight Path to Global Peace, and Judaiology. Umar, the former head of New York prisons' Muslim chaplain program, repeatedly described Jewish conspiracies to control the world: "Why do this small number of people," he asked, "have control of the world? ...There's some people in the world says no Holocaust even happened. Some of their leaders say no Holocaust even happened. Well it did happen. These people were punished. They were punished for a reason, because they were serially disobedient to Allah."
Obama's Department of Homeland Security named to its official advisory council the head of an Arab American organization whose officials have labeled deadly anti-US jihadists as "heroes" and opposed referring to Hamas as a terrorist organization. This is a continuing trend, as indicated by the appointment of Arif Alikhan as Assistant Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security - an appointment that is troubling in many ways.
"Congratulations to Mr. Alikhan on this well-deserved appointment," said Hussam Ayloush, Executive Director of the Los Angeles office of another unindicted co-conspirator in the same Hamas funding case, the Council on American-Islamic Relations. "Mr. Alikhan's new position reflects his and the community's dedication to helping preserve the security of our country. The American Muslim community can be proud of him."
One chief reason for their pride may be Alikhan's instrumental role in pressuring the Los Angeles Police Department to scrap a plan simply to count area mosques and determine the nature of their membership. Alikhan opposed this simple anti-terror measure - and now he is at the DHS.
That's not all. Obama has, in a stunning act of sponsoring terror, invited the propaganda television station of Hamas, Al-Quds TV, to film propaganda here in the United States on the dime of US taxpayer dollars.
Then, Obama honored an enemy of Israel. According to journalist Richard Baehr, Obama announced that he was "presenting the Medal of Freedom to Mary Robinson. So who is Mary Robinson? An enemy of Israel to begin, and the host and mastermind of the first Durban conference" - the conference that made Islamic anti-Semitism official United Nations policy.

Rafael Medoff, director of the Washington DC-based David S. Wyman Institute for Holocaust Studies, explained: "Foot-dragging on the selection sends a message that anti-Semitism is not of great importance to the United States."
Obama sat in Reverend Wright's pew for 20 years. Twenty years - and he disingenuously claims that he didn't hear that anti-Semitic hate preacher over the state of the art sound system in that church? He heard every word. And from the looks of his policies since he has become president, he agreed with what he heard. Heartily.
Bishop E. W. Jackson, Sr., of Exodus Faith Ministries, sounds the alarm:
"Those who are paying attention and thinking about these issues do not find it unreasonable to consider that President Obama is influenced by a strain of anti-Semitism picked up from the Black community, his leftist friends and colleagues, his Muslim associations and his long period of mentorship under Jeremiah Wright. If this conclusion is accurate, Israel has some dark days ahead. For the first time in her history, she may find the president of the United States siding with her enemies. Those who believe as I do that Israel must be protected had better be ready for the fight. We are. Never again!"
I would not be surprised if, when Obama finally names an anti-Semitism envoy, he takes the opportunity to appoint an Islamophobia czar.

Canada: Arab Group Deprived of $447,000 Grant

(IsraelNN.com) The Canadian government is seeking to ensure that it does not support racist, terrorist or hate groups – and has already stripped the Canadian Arab Federation of a $447,000 grant.

Jason Kenney, Canada’s Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, appears to be heading the drive against anti-Semitism and other forms of racism. He has specifically targeted the Canadian Arab Federation (CAF) for criticism over the past year and more, and has also had harsh words for the Canadian Islamic Congress (CIC).

Kenney has described the above groups as having "no real constituency. They have an e-mail account. They have a fax machine. And they have a blowhard who's willing to get on television and say the most audacious things that attract media attention. We, as a government, should not give them additional credibility.”

Kenney and the CAF have been verbally battling each other for two years, beginning in March 2007 when Kenney called the CAF a “racist organization.” A year later, an aide to Kenney said the CAF was “not an anti-racist organization, but an anti-Semitic one.” The CAF continued to raise Kenney’s ire by calling Israel “racist,” and for criticizing the Canadian government for saying Israel’s anti-terrorist war in Gaza was a “measured response” and pulling out of the Durban II conference.

Kenney, for his part, angered the CAF, when he said this past January, "It is shocking to think that flags of banned terrorist organizations such as Hizbullah are being flown in the streets of Canadian cities. The ideals these terrorist organizations preach are abhorrent to the fundamental values of the Canadian people and of all civilized peoples: freedom, democracy, human rights and the rule of law.” In addition, in response to CAF press releases during Israel’s recent Operation Cast Lead in Gaza, Kenney’s press aide said, “There is no need for you [CAF] to send me your press releases. I am not interested in reading them. Thank you for your cooperation… Actually, on second thought, keep writing me. Your e-mails are hilarious.”

Things came to a head last month when the president of CAF, Khaled Mouammar, called Minister Kenney a "professional whore" for his denunciation of Hamas and Hezbollah. This was followed by the removal of the grant to CAF, which will take effect next year.

Kenney has been accused of making this decision because of the insult that had been leveled at him, but he denies it. "If that misunderstanding exists, I absolutely regret it," he responded. "I didn't create the misunderstanding… I regret that, because to some extent I think it has diverted attention away from the real issue, which has nothing to do with name calling whatsoever. Thank G-d we don't live in a country where people with political authority can be vindictive in that way. I think that would be really ridiculous.”

In a speech at the University of Toronto last week, Kenney said that the “de-legitimization" of Israel is "both a cause and a consequence of the new anti-Semitism," hiding behind a pose of multiculturalism. He noted "the disturbing comfort of a small minority in Canadian academia with this odious new anti-Semitism [that is] packaged up as anti-Zionism.”

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper spoke out against anti-Semitism in his country at a Chabad-Lubavitch event earlier this month. "Anti-Semitism is a pernicious evil that must be exposed [and] repudiated whenever and wherever it appears. Fueled by lies and paranoia we have learned from history, it is an evil so profound, indeed as we saw in Mumbai, that it is ultimately a threat to us all. Under our government, Canada will remain an unyielding defender of Jewish religious freedom, a forceful opponent of anti-Semitism in all of its forms and a staunch supporter of a secure and democratic state of Israel," he told the applauding audience.

Trying times are upon us with the economic meltdown from corrupt investment houses and banks who are getting rewarded with massive bailouts by their gov't friends with the peoples money. The ships of state on the worlds ocean are in rough water and many small boats of the people are swamped.

Berl Tsart, my best comrade, killed at seventeen,

Frumke Alperovich the graceful, murdered at seventeen,
Benzike the heart breaker, the talented Voolke Brudno,
Feygl Kleyn, Sonia Perski, both young and beautiful
and many others, would they forgive me for not mentioning their name,
all of them murdered at the eve of their life, slaughtered at seventeen.
Almighty, avenge the pure innocents’ river of blood!

Having just taught a course on the Cultural Geography of the Middle East at a community college in Florida for "seniors" (over 55 years of age), I again encountered a unanimous belief among my students in what I would call the Most Widely Believed Myth of the political and military conflict between Israel and the Arabs. This universal belief, never challenged by the media, is that the United States was wholly or largely responsible for fully supporting Israel on the ground from the very beginning of its independence in May, 1948.

The world has been inundated with a tsunami of Arab propaganda and crocodile tears shed for the "Palestinians" who have reveled in what they refer to as their Catastrophe or Holocaust (Nabka in Arabic). Their plight has been accompanied by unremitting criticism that the United States was the principal architect that stood behind Israel from the very beginning with money, manpower and arms. The fact is that President Truman eventually decided against the pro-Arab "professional opinion" of his Secretary of State, General George Marshall and the Arabists of the State Department. He accorded diplomatic recognition to the new Jewish state but never considered active military aid. His own memoirs recall how he felt betrayed by State Department officials and the American U.N. Ambassador, Warren Austin who pulled the rug out from under him one day after he promised Zionist leader Chaim Weitzman support for partition....

Mofaz: Israel will not accept a nuclear-armed Iran. All means of prevention legitimate

The Israeli transport minister Shaul Mofaz, speaking at Yale University Tuesday night, April 30, on the eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day, warned Iran may attain command of enrichment technology before the end of this year. He said: “Israel will not tolerate a nuclear-armed Iran. This time, the Jewish people won’t let it happen. I would like to believe the world will not let it happen. To prevent this, all means are legitimate.”

Israel’s annual Holocaust remembrance ceremonies focused this year on the theme of courage displayed by Warsaw Ghetto Uprising leaders 65 years ago, knowing they were doomed. Israeli’s president and prime minister laid wreaths in their honor at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial Institute in Jerusalem.

Israelis stood in silence as sirens wailed for two minutes in remembrance of the victims of Nazi World War II genocide, two-thirds of Europe’s nine million Jews. Cafes and places of entertainment were closed and TV and radio broadcast special programs.

In Sderot, memorial ceremonies took place in a new, fortified social center under relentless Palestinian missile fire from Gaza - nine by midday Thursday.

And in Poland, Israel’s chief of staff Lt. Gen. Gaby Ashkenazi led the March of Life from the gates of the former Auschwitz concentration camp to Birkenau. He was joined by 12,000 people from 52 countries. In a short speech, the general noted that the world had stood aside when the Nazis murdered the Jews of Europe.

Avram Grant, the British Chelsea football team’s Israeli coach, whose mother was a Holocaust survivor, joined the procession.

My American readers

Most of you will not see this before the weekend is out, so you may well miss it altogether. Yet I feel to write it now; to get it down.

When you wake up today, starting seven hours or so after we do here in Israel, you will celebrate Thanksgiving, marking 386 years after that first special gathering to thank and praise the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob for taking care of the pilgrims He had planted in the “new promised land.”

It is a day when you will express your appreciation “for the many signal favors of Almighty God” bestowed upon your country.

As a nation, you do have much to give thanks for. You have been blessed with an enormous, breathtakingly beautiful and extremely prosperous land.
There is ample room for you and your 300 million fellow citizens to live in, share and benefit from. The US is the wealthiest, most powerful and most influential country on the planet. For nearly one hundred years you have been the world’s uncontested “Number One Superpower.”

Thanksgiving will kick off the four-day long weekend that marks the two heaviest annual travel days in the United States as families, often from diverse places all across the country, make a special effort to come together in one place.

And as the majority of you do every year, you will carve up your turkeys, tuck into sumptuous feasts, and take turns talking about things you are thankful for and experiences during the past year which have left you feeling grateful. Untold numbers of you will be filled anew with gratitude that you are Americans.

I want to wish you, with all my heart, a Happy Thanksgiving indeed.

But I wonder how many of you, as you sit down to enjoy your national holiday, will be aware of the fact that a number of your countrymen will be otherwise occupied over this weekend? State Department and other administration officials will be burning the candle at both ends trying to get things lined up for the big event that is to be convened the day after you all return to work.

While you are thanking God for your land and His bountiful provision in it, your elected leaders will be brainstorming for the most effective way to take another nation’s land away from them.

And as you while away your weekend, relaxing, visiting, having fun, government officials and other leaders from as many as 40 countries will be boarding the planes that will bring them to your shores in time for Tuesday, when they will come together to determine how best to commit this crime - this massive historic injustice.

That’s right. The International Conference for the Creation of Palestine on Israel’s biblical land is set to convene in Annapolis, Maryland, on November 27 - this coming Tuesday.

And what a day to choose.

On the Jewish calendar, November 27, 2007 is 17 Kislev, 5768. It was on 17 Kislev 5708 in Jerusalem (evening time) - exactly 60 years ago - that the United Nations voted to split the Land of Israel in two, and out of it carve a Jewish and an Arab state.

Back then the decision was greeted with joy. for even though it deprived the Jews of a large part of the land promised them for a homeland, it did provide the foothold from which their ongoing restoration could unfold. A majority of the nations - perhaps moved with at least some compassion following the Holocaust - voted in favor. And on the strength of that vote David Ben Gurion six months later read out Israel’s Declaration of Independence.

What will happen on Tuesday though, is that the majority of the nations represented at Annapolis - all of them in fact - will give a massive push to the relentless effort to try and turn back the clock and enforce to the realization of the partition decision.

And the US will be leading the charge - a charge against the will and purpose of the same God who established your country, and who is working to re-establish His country for His people - Israel.

On this Thanksgiving Day, I am praying for you, America.

For I fear for you.
